You know when Malcolm says that he thought he had lost her, then maybe he was referring to when she fell overboard. This makes more sense. But I still think he had seen her before on the River Witch. Perhaps this is why he raided the ship. Now where in the book am I going to find the answer to this!!!

I actually always thought that when he claims to have lost her it is because he thought she had found out what he was really like. Her loss of memory allowed him to become that person she thought he was in the first place and "win" her back.
